Any\nTherapy Must Involve Our Body<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise, there is no therapy.  Just potential toxic drugs, age-old herbs and\nfoods (often also part of therapy) by themselves without our body don\u2019t\nconstitute therapy.  Depending on our\nbeliefs, our body is given by God, or it has been evolved through gazillion\nyears from chemicals to groups of them, to living cells, moving organisms, and eventually\nto us, before we were aware of our human existence millennia to millions of years\nago.  Regardless, our body is extremely\ncomplex, with billions of living cells as well as chemicals, enclosed in a unit\nwith distinctly unique but different interconnected parts functioning\nindividually, and in concert, with amazing efficiency.  Furthermore, no two of these units or our\nbodies are exactly alike.  Any part of our\nbody out of harmony would reverberate throughout the whole unit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            During\nthe last 2 centuries, many Nobel prizes have been awarded to scientists who\nstudied minuscule parts of our body, trying to figure out how it works and how\nto treat diseases.  Up to the present,\nhave we solved our body\u2019s mysteries?  Or\nhave we eliminated diseases?  The answer\nis no.  Instead, only recently had we\nstarted the first of many drug-caused new diseases, such as Tardive Dyskinesia described\nin the last post?  God, for his\/her\/its\ncreating us, has not received any Nobel prize. \nNor has father\/mother Time that has gotten us to our current state of\nhuman existence, been thus honored.  It\u2019s\nobvious that this prize only honors the world\u2019s scientists with the most\nimportant accomplishments.   However, few of the humans belonging to a club\nof brilliant people and the moneyed class honoring them seem to see the wonders\nall around us.  If they did, they would\nhave seen their extraordinary accomplishments (the best of human intelligence)\neasily dwarfed by these wonders, including our body.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Our\nbody\u2019s existence and how it works is still a mystery, just like the universe and\nthe cosmos.  The scientific work done in\na minute segment of our body, no matter how brilliant, is nothing compared to\nthe whole body\u2019s billions of similar minute segments, coordinated by some force\nto function as a whole in harmony.   Fixing\nit has been a centuries-long challenge.  It\nis easier to build a robot for a specific job and fix it when any of its parts\nbreaks down than to tamper with our body trying to deal with a disfunction or a\ndisease in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Because of our body\u2019s infinite complexity, a disturbance in any small segment is most likely to reverberate throughout the body.\u00a0 Here are two of my main thoughts regarding therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Traditional herbal medicines are no different than\nfoods.  They are what they are, as a\nresult of trial and error over time.  During\nthis time (thousands or millions of years), through actual human experience, we\nhave learned which herb is safe, which is toxic, and what we can do to make\nsome toxic ones safer or less toxic.  The\nkey element involved is time.  They are\nall based on actual human experience, and we already know most of them are safe\nand effective, based on at least 3500 years of continuous documentation (at\nleast for Chinese herbs and formulas).<\/li>
  2. Modern synthetic drugs are based on artificially designed\n\u2018scientific\u2019 experimentation, not actual human experience.   Since\nsynthetic chemicals are brand new to our planet and to us, we have never had\nexperience with them.   We have no idea\nhow edible or toxic they are.   Just like\nif we don\u2019t know a mushroom, we won\u2019t simply pick any mushroom and eat it.  We leave it alone until we can find someone\nexperienced with mushrooms to tell us.  Since\nwe can\u2019t just ask anyone whether a newly synthesized chemical is safe, we\ndesign some elaborate scientific tests to find out.  So we test them in the test tube (in<\/em> vitro<\/em>),\nliving matters (in vivo<\/em>), via small\nanimals, and finally in clinical trials in humans for 10 to 20 years before they\nare approved for human use, despite their always being accompanied by\n\u2018tolerable\u2019 side-effects during these periods. \nHowever, the real test by trial and error only starts then, after being\nput into actual human use.  Though time\nhas not been on modern synthetic drugs\u2019 side. \nThese modern new drugs have no long human-use history as opposed to traditional\nherbal medicines whose safety or toxicity has been continuously tested in\nhumans for as long as millennia and centuries (all documented) or many decades\nmore than just 20 years during modern clinical trials for synthetic drugs.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    As a scientist knowledgeable in the big picture of\ndrugs and herbs used in human therapy, I simply don\u2019t understand why some\nfellow scientists can\u2019t see the difference between time-tested herbs (no\ndifferent than foods) and synthetic chemicals (mostly made from reactions with\nor among new petrochemicals).  Unless, of\ncourse, if they are part of the consortium of drug makers, sellers, and their\ninterdependent associates who control the vicious cycle.  Then, they have no choice but to defend their\nself-generating money-making machine whether or not the drugs they produce work\nor continue to cause more diseases, which is more to their own benefit.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
