Bypassing the Vicious Cycle! Part 1 How it emerged and established itself as a major part of our healthcare and how we can avoid and bypass it…

In my last 2 short posts, I have briefly explained the misapplication of scientific technologies to traditional medicines and that its failure to properly evaluate the true value of these tried-and-true therapies has landed us in the vicious cycle (VC), with apparently no viable natural alternatives. The reason is that, due to this misapplication of technologies, traditional medicines, such the Chinese herbs or Indian medicines, have never been properly evaluated and subsequently modernized the right way to still retain their age-old traditional attributes, hence their well-known and documented values. Instead, what we currently have is not traditional herbal medicines, but chemicals arbitrarily selected to represent them. These chemicals can simply be isolated and, if feasible, promptly synthesized.  Being made from petrochemicals, containing also such brand-new, totally unknown ones as impurities, they will fit right into our VC. I was trained in Big Pharma’s chemical-oriented technologies and have used them for decades. Even now, at times, if I am not thinking totally straight, these technologies still take over my mind. Thus, toxic chemical drugs have so occupied my thinking along with the apparent ruination (or at best, tossing-aside) of Chinese medicine that I almost did not realize there is another way to deal with the VC. That was after months of being active on LinkedIn, having connected with a whole new movement heading towards alternative healthcare; I changed my mind.

From a few dozen connections several months ago to now, close to 3,500. Many of my colleagues are drug experts and over half are alternative-oriented, and practicing non-drug therapies. With genuine herbal supplements and natural chemicals from nature (not synthesized from brand-new toxins), we can build an alternative path based on mostly Chinese tonic herbs and formulas that have doubled safely as both food and medicine for millennia. Some of which are already being used as herbal supplements, though much confusion still exists in this field. I am going to try to change that, hopefully with your support.

If this is the first time you hear or read about the VC, please first read my paper, “A Disruptive Concept in Drug Therapy” or my new book, “My Life & Rollercoaster Career,” at least its Introduction, to get an overall picture of what modern drug therapy and traditional medicines actually are. The VC is described there many times.

This VC is now firmly established in our life and occupies a key part of our healthcare, whether we like it or not. However, one thing I really don’t like and have been trying in recent years to figure out, is how this totally one-sided scenario could have emerged. I still have not found the answer. Yet, the drug makers have finally arrived at this VC, by chance, or by design. Since all synthetic drugs have toxic effects at their recommended dose levels (not just megadose) and can cause new diseases that are, in turn, treated with more new drugs, hence the VC. It goes on one after another. The pharmaceutical industry and its associates control this VC. No need to make drugs that work, or safe. Just safe enough not to kill test animals too soon. Our modern drug scientists (discoverers & developers) call this ‘evidence-based’ medicine, while they refer to traditional medicines non-scientific and anecdotal, no matter how long the tradition or how well documented, intimating that our ancestors were ignorant. The simple truth is, neither modern drug therapy nor traditional tried-and-true medicine is scientific, as explained earlier in my previous posts here or on my blog (www.ayslcorp.com/blog).

We are now at a point that our conventional scientific endeavors are moving too fast, often tainted or corrupted by money. It seems every scientific undertaking related to health and sickness is incentivized by the amount of profit one can make. To maximize profit we have patents to prevent others from doing the same thing so that, depending on our conscience, we can demand any price, and no one can do anything about it. I’m sure many patents are legitimate, especially those with easily measurable outcome. However, with synthetic drugs or complex herbs for disease treatment, the uncontrollable nature of the elements of time and our extremely complex and well-organized body, are in their way. A patented synthetic drug does not guarantee it would work decades after it has been approved and is in human use. How do you judge the performance of these medicines and grant them patents? What if it causes cancer or some new diseases (or increases the incidences of old ones) 5 years, or even 25, after approval? What happens then? The drug maker would return our money?  I know I am not supposed to ask so many questions to upset the status quo. But I can’t help it.

With so many scientific advancements, each of us digging deeper and deeper into our own hole (specialty), say, on a hill, with no idea how they would affect the hill (our health), nor do we even care, just doing research for the sake of research? I assume the hill would eventually collapse and all that digging was for naught, at least as far as the hill is concerned. I think this is similar to our current life-science research efforts. Some of our research has produced great results, many of which find specific invaluable applications in our daily lives. But how can they help our health? I don’t think we know, because most of us are free thinkers with a free will, though some of us might have been brainwashed by Big Pharma at a young age and then dragged into the VC, not knowingly. I was one such scientist for decades. But fate has led me through a rollercoaster career and eventually ended up where I am – an entrepreneurial herbal scientist, not just a chemist or herbalist, but a scientist with insight into these fields.  I can see the benefits of our herbal tradition, not just seeking out any particular chemical in the herbs we like or in which we have the expertise to turn the chemical into a modern drug, eventually synthesized. There doesn’t seem to be any concerted effort to set a defined goal to benefit the health of the general public.  However, I do have some ideas and plans.

Regardless, what is health anyway? We are now firmly established in this VC era. We live by some average numbers based on statistics, without taking into consideration an individual’s own constitution. If we are within the normal range, we are deemed healthy. Otherwise, the medical and pharmaceutical establishments will prescribe drugs to bring your numbers back to normal.

There are various criteria for good health or optimal health. Some people have taken drugs from an early age and have always taken them for one thing or another. These people with all these drug molecules inside their bodies may feel ‘fine’ in general, but they are prone to aches and pains that can be alleviated by more drugs, some brand new. Then, when they become seniors, half of them take over half-a-dozen prescription drugs daily. They may survive to 70 or 80. But is this a truly healthy life compared to the one lived by many who seldom, if ever, take drugs, legal or illegal?

I like to tell people about the Chinese dish chop suey when comparing good health (or just surviving) to optimal or great health. Among the Cantonese people, legend has it that chop suey started during the Gold-Rush era (ca 1849), when many young men, mostly from my mother’s village, Sun Wui (Xinhui) and nearby ones, especially Toy San (Taishan) (Mandarin spelling in italics) went to San Francisco, or “Gold Mountain,” to seek fame and fortune. They mostly ended up in the food and laundry, or other service businesses. Being frugal, they didn’t throw away the leftovers but saved them, mixed them up and stir-fried them the next day with maybe some fresh beansprouts and called it chop suey (meaning “mixed bits & pieces”) to serve to their customers. For my millennial and younger colleagues and friends, you have grown up in the more recent era when communication with Asia and other faraway countries is already instant or only minutes away. I bet you have never tasted chop suey, because most Chinese restaurants don’t serve it anymore. However, back in the 1950’s and 1960’s, it was a popular dish in Chinese restaurants for non-Chinese Americans. That represented ‘Chinese food’ to them up until probably 1980’s or 1990’s when you could get practically any Chinese food close to those served in Hong Kong. So, if you only knew chop suey as Chinese food and liked it, you hadn’t tasted real Chinese food. The difference between them was like night and day. That’s why I like to give this as an example to describe our health in America. Many people with all these drug molecules in their body may think they are healthy because they can easily get hold of drugs to treat their ups or downs to return to their drug-maintained normal. However, they have probably never known true health without drugs. Mine belongs to the latter, truth health without drugs. I want to help introduce this to our younger generations by bypassing the VC.

Our body is naturally resilient. If we take good care of it through good nutrition, regular exercise, and avoid stress and drugs, it has self-healing powers that allow it to right itself from an occasional abuse, whatever it is.

With such a body system, we can be naturally healthy without synthetic drugs in our alternative path parallel to that of the VC. More than half of my connections are practicing in such areas as nutrition, lifestyles, natural therapies, herbs, acupuncture, moxibustion, qigong, tuina massage, gong fu, energy healing, etc.), true prevention (not what is practiced by the medical or pharmaceutical professions where prevention simply means detecting a disease early and treating it with more toxic drugs), and many others. This has probably been ongoing for some years while I was busy winding down my business after losing two of my major products to another company that persuaded the younger generation of my client to switch to cheaper versions without much genuine extracts in them [see “Chapter 9: Adulteration Continues to be a Major Problem” of my newest book, “My Life & Rollercoaster Career.”].

What are the sciences of medicines?

Depending on our ultimate intention, there are 2 issues involved in the therapeutic process.

First, for the straight-forward synthetic chemical we call modern drug, its design and preparation are scientific; but once it enters our complex body, the process is simply trial and error, no different from how our distant ancestors first tasted plants to distinguish the edible ones from the toxic ones; then passed them on to us.

Second, while traditional medicines have been effectively used for millennia in keeping us alive and well, they are no longer truly traditional in recent decades.  It seems no one has been interested in preserving them, while Big Pharma with its financial clout, is only interested in obtaining more chemical drugs from them, thus skewing everything to only chemical drugs.  It has even somehow persuaded scientists in China to go along.  Hence, I’m sad to say, no more traditional Chinese medicines as they have been known, used, and documented!  Unless…

Scientific research on herbs for use in human therapy has never worked as intended

I have repeatedly explained this in my earlier posts in LinkedIn and on my blog, especially in my most recent book and paper.  The following 2 posts (Spanish & English) carry the same message that will lead you to my next article.  I hope that will come out in no more than a few days.  You see, I have this handicap since childhood.  The message from brain to paper/keyboard is v…e…r…y slow.  At times, when inspiration strikes, I may have a chain of brilliant ideas.  Then, by the time I barely finish writing down the first one, I’d lose all the rest.  All my life, I can’t take notes either, just a word here and there.  After I founded my own companies and had competent assistants, I couldn’t dictate so I just told them in a short conversation of what I had in mind, and they would have the key points for me to work on and to finish.  Now, I am on my own.  So, please excuse my slow speed.  #scientificresearch #handicap #brain #childhood #message #keyboard #owncompanies #assistants #slowspeed

My Life & Rollercoaster Career (p. 68-69).  ¡Gracias!

My friends and colleagues, please excuse my Spanish

I’ve never published anything in this language except on LinkedIn and on my blog. I taught myself Spanish when I was about 15 years old using the book “Teach Yourself Spanish”.  Then, at the university in Taiwan, I met the Jesuit priest from Spain, Father Marcelino Andreu, who became my mentor.  I was able to talk with him and he corrected my writings during my college years.  The Spanish language I have learned was that of the 1950s. I hope you don’t find it too strange, although I’ve been reading El País and BBC World in recent years.  Please read what I have written about P. Marcelino in my book “My Life & Rollercoaster Career” (p. 68-69). Thank you!

Our Amazing Body! It has its own mind!

We are all born with a well-functioning body primed for our survival.  There is everything on earth for us to stay alive and healthy.  Since humans appeared on this planet countless years ago, we have learned what to eat or avoid for our survival.  When we are ill, we have learned what to ingest to recover and stay alive. For generations since ancient times we have also developed a healthcare system that tells us what is beneficial to take and what is poisonous to avoid.  Because of this, we are still here today.  Our survival does not depend on unknown brand-new chemicals made from toxic petrol chemicals which may temporarily relieve our illness but eventually, when trying to make ‘better’ ones, we’d abuse the process, resulting in creating more problems and illnesses.  This has now ended up in a vicious cycle.  The greedy money-worshipers might not have meant it, or been greedy, at the onset.  But once this vicious cycle was established, they have succumbed to one of our human weaknesses and quietly let it be, knowing full well it is a one-way street downhill for others but themselves.  These businessmen seemed to have embraced evil; the more toxic drugs, the more money flowing their way.  To hell with the rest of us.  Why? Maybe they don’t have children and grandchildren or simply, compassion.  Or perhaps their religion or family value works counter to everyone else’s?  I wish someone with credibility and expertise in such matters would write something understandable to the general public and tell us how this could have happened.  First from ephedrine to morphine, and then to penicillin.  These are all natural chemicals in our environment, later replaced with ‘better’ ones, for whatever purpose – the synthetic amphetamines, opioids, and bacteria-resistant antibiotics. Now, they have all come back to haunt us. And yet we have these amazing scientific advances in every field, except knowing how to put these together to benefit the whole – our body (a mini cosmos) and our environment (a little cosmos).  We can put micro switches to cut off a disease at its molecular level or bigger switches to turn off bits and pieces of a disaster that is natural or already man-made.  For the sake of our grandchildren, theirs, and other future generations, we should now start not to allow any more synthetic chemicals to be used unless we can first find a safe way to dispose of them after using.  This would help our environment and our health.  Which is why I uploaded my post, “Let’s dream big!” (English & Spanish) earlier on my blog and LinkedIn.  For the sake of our future generations, especially you younger folks, we can start doing it for real because we have the technology (Phyto-True), the lab, and the experience.  All we need is a lot of you to buy my book and/or spread the word.  My blog:  www.ayslcorp.com/blog           #healthcare, #petrolchemicals #viciouscycle #evil #toxicdrugs #ephedrine #morphine #antibiotics #amphetamines #opioids #bacteriaresistant       #scientificadvances #environment #future #generations #disaster #survival

Blogging Promotion of My Books (continued)

My Life & Rollercoaster Career:  The Life of a Pharmacognosist + Are Drugs Better Than Herbs [550 pages: available from Amazon; $25.95, paperback; $5.49, e-version]

As I have already repeatedly expressed, I am planning to form a nonprofit with 75% of the gross profits of my books towards 2 immediate achievable goals.  The first is to shape up current commercial herbal products, at least those labeled as ‘herbal’ but in fact are only chemical.  We’ll be fingerprinting and exposing them as what they actually are.  For a typical example of 2 ‘herbal’ products with the exact same herbal ingredients on their labels but showing completely different fingerprints, see “Chapter 9:  Adulteration Continues to be a Major Problem” in my book.  The second is to recommend genuine herbal products to consumers from herbal companies that produce them, now with fingerprints added to guarantee their identity and quality.  Eventually, the goal is to have our own manufacturing facilities crowdfunded by consumers and charging them a fraction of what for-profit companies usually charge.  This would greatly relieve their financial burden and would eliminate their necessity of taking some of the toxic synthetic drugs from the vicious cycle.  My young friends and colleagues, if you think I am doing the right thing for you and your children, and theirs, please buy my book.  Also, help me spread the word!

One of the main reasons many herbal medicines/supplements don’t seem to work is because even up to this day, there are no uniform standards or requirements for herbal ingredients.  Some are whole extracts while others may contain only 1 or 2 marker chemicals with no herbal elements.  Consequently, you have no idea what you get when you buy some well-known or well-marketed brand believing and even trusting it to be the real thing.  Big mistake!  We’ll find out when we start fingerprinting them.

I have been advocating identity and quality of herbal products for many decades but most of my industry colleagues have not listened, counting on our colleagues in government will continue to do nothing.  For the status quo, see “Chapter 11:  Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD) – Not for Herbal Supplements,” of my book.  Once these herbal supplements have improved, consumers should have their true benefits, not just different hype selling the same fake useless products without herbs.

The current drug-therapy vicious cycle is untenable.  It’s a manmade situation allowing drug makers and their interdependent industries, supported by many crooked politicians, to exploit the health of the rest of the world’s population with impunity.  Before the drug Ingrezza was approved by our FDA to treat a drug-caused disease Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) 2 years ago, I thought they might not have known that our modern drug-therapy with toxic synthetic drugs was obviously heading towards the vicious cycle.  And that once they realized it, they would stop, because of its disastrous effects on the health of the human race.  Instead, they must have celebrated quietly in glee.  And here is the truth.   With 500,000 people in the United States alone suffering from this manmade TD at $200 to $400 per day per patient (or up to $146,000/yr/patient), the money of just one drug these exploiters of human health drain from us (as individuals and government) amounts to up to $73 billion per year!  From my estimation, assuming we had only 20 such drugs to treat manmade diseases, the amount of money these greedy people quietly take from our treasury is over a trillion dollars per year!   This does not even include the thousands of drugs for treating regular diseases, many of which are probably also drug-caused, such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease, acid reflux, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, and Crohn’s Disease, among many others.  After all, with so many potentially very toxic, unnatural molecules (synthetic drug molecules) lurking inside the vast majority of Americans, how do we know any illness or disease is not due to these molecules keep bumping into the natural ones in our body to cause havoc, hence imbalance and new diseases?

Despite the above bad news, there is something positive and uplifting that I admit I have missed during the past 20 years or so while I was not following the general trend of alternative therapies, but rather concentrating on synthetic drug therapy and the confusion between a pure chemical and a multichemical herb among most scientists, resulting in THM (esp. Chinese) not having been ever properly evaluated by appropriate scientific technologies until we succeeded in the development of our Phyto-True system 15 years ago.

I discovered the above trend only during the past few months when I was seriously connecting and accepting connections (from a few dozen connections to almost 3,000 in a few more days).  I am gratified to see so many more healthcare practitioners are in diverse fields, from lifestyle, nutrition, true prevention (not the Big Pharma type to detect diseases early and treat them with drugs), naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, traditional herbal medicine (incl.  Chinese and Ayurvedic), tuina massage, energy healing, qigong, food therapy, and many others.  Many of them don’t use drugs at all.  This all gives me a glimpse of hope.  Realistically, we are all in it together. With our modern communication and transportation technologies, our world is getting smaller and we are getting closer together.  At the same time, due to greed, our world is getting more and more polluted and our health is now in a vicious cycle that benefits only drug makers and their interdependent associates.   Think of your children, grandchildren, and theirs.  Start directing them to healthier lifestyles, better nutrition and natural therapies, so that their body can have the natural resistance to ward off diseases before they take hold.  I want to remind you synthetic drugs are not nutrients that our body needs, especially being pushed on us by greedy people who don’t have our wellbeing in mind.  They benefit by making us perpetually sick as in the vicious cycle.  Let’s not let them, by breaking the vicious cycle, or avoid it altogether.  Together, we can do it!
